Franklin County, VA – June 6 – A Wirtz, Virginia teenager was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter Monday after causing a fatal wreck in January that left one person dead.
The accident occurred on January 23 at 3:34 p.m. when Marina Danelle Snyder, 17, crashed her 2000 Mercury Cougar into two other vehicles and ran off the road, reports thefranklinnewspost.com.
According to officials, Snyder was traveling north on Route 122 at high speeds when she entered a curve and lost control of the vehicle.
The Cougar ran over the centerline and struck two southbound vehicles—a 2008 Toyota Scion driven by Jason Beavers, 28, and a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, driven by Jonathan Hall, 26.
Snyder’s car then ran off the left side of the road and crashed into a building and two parked cars that were unoccupied at the time.
There were four teens in the Cougar at the time of the accident. Snyder and two male passengers, both 17-years-old, were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
Anthony Cole Kinsey, 17, suffered a traumatic brain injury, along with multiple facial bone fractures and leg fractures, as well as lacerations to his liver and spleen. His father has filed a $2.5 million lawsuit as a result.
Zachary Ian Parsons, 17, was also a passenger in the car at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead following the collision. His family has also filed a $2.5 million lawsuit as a result.
The courts have ordered that Snyder be supervised at all times by her parents or grandparents while in a vehicle. She must also wear an electronic monitoring device and is forbidden to leave Virginia without the court’s permission.
If convicted of involuntary manslaughter, Snyder could face up to 10 years in prison.
