A non-profit organization called Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) will be offering free services to all residents in the area this Fourth of July.
According to official reports by afro.com, Independence Day is a U.S. holiday that sees 40 percent of traffic deaths result from drunk driving.
As a result, WRAP will be offering free rides to all residents aged 21 and over that would otherwise be at risk of drinking and driving on that day.
This service is called the “Independence Day SoberRide Program” and will be in operation starting at 10 p.m. on July 4th and ending at 4 a.m. the next day.
If one wishes to use this service on that day, they can call the toll-free SoberRide phone number at 1-800-200-TAXI.
The organization has partnered with local cab companies in the Washington area, as well as in the Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George and throughout northern Virginia, including Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William County.
Participating cab companies include Alexandria Yellow Cab, Fairfax Yellow Cab, Manassas Cab Company, and Red Top Cab, among others.
There are several sponsors involved in this program as well, including Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, ExxonMobil, GEIGO, and Volkswagen Group of America, among others.
