A crash in Ashburn, VA over the weekend left two people dead, and an attorney facing manslaughter and drunk driving charges, reports NBC Washington.
Ricky and Leia Wrenn were making their way to their Ashburn home on their Harley Davidson motorcycle when a BMW sedan, driven by an alleged drunk driver, hit and killed them.
Mark Sgarlata, 52 of Ashburn, VA is a Virginia attorney and now faces a DUI charge and two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter. Investigators say that Sgarlata was making a left turn into a shopping center on Ashburn Farm Parkway at around 1 a.m. Sunday morning when he struck the couple.
Sgarlata took a breath test at the scene of the accident and recorded a .223 blood alcohol content level. Another test taken later registered .15. The deputy who made the arrest said that Sgarlata was unsteady on his feet, had blurred speech, and admitted to drinking five glasses of wine prior to the accident.
Sgarlata did no sustain any injuries in the crash and is being held without bond. His hearing is set for Nov. 20th.
