In December of 2012, my son Eli had open heart surgery to repair two holes in his heart. We traveled from Washington DC to Philadelphia in order to have the surgery performed at one of the best hospitals in the world for this type of procedure, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Doctors told us to plan on being there for up to 10 days. My wife and I were blessed enough that we could make the trip without financial hardship. There are many families who cannot. While at the hospital we met many families that had traveled from all over the country and had already spent multiple months in Philadelphia. Eli’s Heart is being started to help families, like those we met, with the travel expenses associated with getting their babies’ hearts repaired. We do this by asking caring people to donate frequent traveler points, credit card rewards points and cash donations.”
