A baby born in Chicago who had part of his penis amputated after a complication during a circumcision has won more than $1.3 million in damages, reports Daily Mail.
Daniel Burden lost part of his penis after a botched circumcision when he was just 12-hours-old and has been awarded $1,357,901.12 from a jury. Burden, now five, was rushed to Children’s Memorial Hospital where a doctor was able to reattach the cut off portion.
Doctors expect Burden’s penis to be fully functional, but he will have to live with moderate scaring and the risk of altered nerve sensation in the area.
The defendants argued that the accidental amputation was a known risk during the circumcision and that the plaintiff accepted that risk.
