A brand of air movers/blowers used to dry floors in homes and other buildings is being recalled due to a defective internal electrical capacitor that can overheat and pose a fire risk, reports the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Around 53,000 of the Air movers, manufactured by EDIC of Los Angeles, CA and sold to flood remediation contractors and other service professionals across the United States between January 2003 and September 2011 for a price between $160 and $285, were recalled because of a defective in the unit’s internal electrical capacitor, which has a tendency to fail and can cause overheating, posing a fire risk.
EDIC has received notification of four incidents where the Air movers overheated and started fires, resulting in property damage. However, no injuries have been reported in connection to the defect.
If consumers own one or more of these defective air blowers, they are encouraged to stop their use immediately and contact EDIC for information on receiving a free repair kit. Consumers can reach them toll free at (888) 289-8720, or visit their website at www.EDIC-USA.com.
