Around 2 million of Summer Infant Inc’s Mother’s Touch/Deluxe Baby Bathers have been recalled because of a tendency for the wire frame to disconnect from the side hinge, posing a fall hazard to the infant, reports the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The baby bathers, manufactured in China and sold at merchandise stores across the U.S. and online between September 2004 and November 2011 in a price range of $15-$30, have been recalled because when the bather is lifted with the infant in it, the wire frame can break away from the side hinge, and the baby can drop out of the bather, posing a fall risk and potentially serious head injury to the child.
The bathers have adjustable side hinges, and some carry a head support cushion.
There have been seven reports of falling babies due to the bathers breaking in the U.S., five of which included head injuries to the child. Four of those children received skull fractures, and the fifth was transported to an emergency room with a bump on the head.
