Banzai Falls In-ground Pool Slides have been recalled due to a tendency for portions of the slide to deflate, which has led to one reported death and multiple severe neck injuries, reports the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Around 21,000 of Banzia’s inflatable slides, which were made in China and sold across the U.S. at the popular retail chains Walmart and Toys R Us from January 2005 to June 2009 for a retail price of about $250, have been recalled because of a tendency for the slide to deflate, allowing the slider to hit the ground underneath the slide and potentially become injured.
In addition, the slide is reportedly unstable and can topple over sideways under both still and windy conditions. It also carries insufficient instructions and warnings.
A 29-year-old mother in Andover, Massachusetts died when she fractured her neck while going down a Banzai in-ground pool water slide. She struck her head on the edge of the concrete pool after the bottom of the slide became somewhat deflated.
Further, a man in Springfield, Missouri became a quadriplegic after using the slide, and a woman in Allentown, Pennsylvania fractured her neck.
The recalled Banzai in-ground pool slides have a blue-colored base, a yellow sliding surface and an archway going over the top portion of the slide. Water is meant to be sprayed down the slide’s slope using a hose.
The barcode number of the defective slide is 2675315734, with a model number of 15734, both of which can be found on the slide’s original packing but not on the slide itself.
