Washington – June 14 – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently urged motorcyclists who own the 5X5 brand, SA-08 model motorcycle helmet to discontinue using it.
According to official reports by KTVN.com, the helmet failed to meet federal safety standards, leading the government to issue a request for recall.
Officials said that Tank Sports Inc. of California imported and sold as many as 14,000 defective helmets before it declared bankruptcy.
They also said the company failed to recall the helmets before declaring bankruptcy.
When the government tested the helmets, they failed to meet penetration protection requirements. Tests showed that both the outer shell and the inner liner in three out of four helmets were penetrated.
At this time, it is not known whether any injuries or deaths have occurred involving these helmets.
