LG Electronics Appliance Co. has recalled a number of their Kenmore Dehumidifiers because they have a tendency to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers, reports the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Around 795,000 humidifiers, manufactured in China and sold exclusively at Kmart and Sears retailers across the U.S. and online at Kmart.com and Sears.com between 2003 and 2009 in a price range of $140 and $220, have been recalled because they can overheat, leading to smoke, melting and fire, posing burn and fire hazards to the user.
The recalled humidifiers include 35-, 50-, and 70-pint sized humidifiers, and have a Kenmore logo attached on the front/top area.
There have been 107 reports of overheating humidifiers, leading to a total of $7 million worth of property damage. There have also been three people injured by smoke inhalation.
If you own one of these defective products, you are encouraged to deactivate and unplug it immediately and contact the firm to get a Sears gift card worth $75, $80, $90 or $100 to be used at any Kmart or Sears location. As a substitute to the gift cards, consumers may also receive a check for the gift card amount.
