Virginia State Police implemented a “Trooper Bowl” enforcement program this past Super Bowl Sunday, which resulted in the arrest of two drivers in Arlington, VA.
Troopers also issued 42 citations for violations from speeding to driving without a seat belt, authorities said.
“We would like to believe that the minimal number of DUI arrests is a result of Northern Virginians making the safe, responsible decision to not to drink and drive on Super Bowl Sunday,” said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.
Police increased patrols for drunk and impaired drivers on interstates in Northern Virginia from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
“We want people to enjoy themselves, but not at the expense of hurting or killing others by getting behind the wheel and driving drunk,” said 1st Sgt. Eric J. Penree of the Virginia State Police.
