A new campaign spearheaded by the Manassas City Police Association is aimed at supporting Police Officer Heather Munsterman, who was struck by a vehicle earlier this month, as well as other officers injured in the line of duty, reports the Manassas Patch.
The campaign will take place in Manassas over the next few weeks, with events raising money to help Munsterman with her recovery expenses, and to establish a fund for police officers hurt while on duty.
Munsterman was struck by a distracted driver while she was making a routine traffic stop on Route 28, and suffered a shoulder injury, bone fractures, and a concussion. For our original story on the accident, click here.
The campaign also looks to raise public awareness about the state law known as “Move Over, Slow Down,” one which forces drivers to change lanes when approaching a police or emergency vehicle on the shoulder of the road, or to slow down and pass cautiously if changing lanes is not possible.
Some of the campaign’s events include “Hopes 4 Heather,” a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and shoot out, and a Raise the Bar Strength and Conditioning session.
