Thanksgiving is a time to surround yourself with family and friends and reflect on the most important things in life. Enjoy the well-deserved time off from your hectic daily life, cook up a turkey, and enjoy a few drinks responsibly.

Thanksgiving Fire Safety Tips

  • Remain in the kitchen if you are cooking food on the stovetop. Things happen fast.
  • Don’t leave your house when you’re cooking your turkey, and make sure to check on it regularly.
  • Children should stay at least 3-feet away from the hot stovetop when you are cooking.
  • Be careful with hot liquids and foods. Children can be seriously burnt by steam or sauces that splash from the stove.
  • Make sure the floor is clean of debris like toys, bags, etc.
  • Make sure knives are out of the reach of all your children.
  • Make sure electrical cords from appliances like electric knives, plate warmers, coffeemakers, etc. are not dangling and accessible to children.
  • Keep lighters and matches in a locked cupboard situated high up in the kitchen, well out of the reach of children.
  • Children should not be left on their own in a room with a lit candle.
  • Check your fire alarms by pushing the test button, and replace the batteries if they are dead.
