Parking Brake Could Cause Fire
Additionally, in a letter to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), GM has revealed that it is issuing a recall of 221,558 Cadillac XTS and Chevrolet Impala sedans due to a defect in its parking brake that could cause a fire.
According to reports, these vehicles brake pads stay partially pressed even when there isn’t any need, this action results in the heating up of brakes and they may eventually catch fire. “If the vehicle is operated for an extended period of time in this condition, there is a potential for the rear brakes to generate significant heat, smoke and sparks,” the letter said. “Brake pads that remain partially engaged with the rotors may cause excessive brake heat that may result in a fire.”
Chassis-Control Problems
General Motors Co. is also recalling 117,651 vehicles because of a faulty chassis-control system that may result in a crash. The flaw in the chassis control modules could cause an electric short that could lead to multiple problems, including the engine stalling, GM said in their recall notice. The vehicles relating to this recall are 2013-2014 model year Cadillac CTS sedans, Escalade SUVs as well as certain Buick and GMC models.
Loose Hood Latches and Loose Parts
Friday, October 3, 2014 GM announced it was recalling 524,384 cars and sport utility vehicles globally in two actions dealing with potential hood latch problems and loose parts. 93,834 newer South Korea-built Chevrolet Spark cars have been recalled because of a risk of the hood opening unexpectedly during driving, increasing the likelihood of a crash. The cars affected by the recall are from model years 2013 through 2015.
Airbag Defects
GM also said it had told U.S. dealers on Thursday to stop selling the newly introduced 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sized pickup trucks in advance of a recall to fix a potential air bag defect.
Loose Joint and Worn Threads
The company said it was recalling 430,550 Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X SUVs for possible loose joint and worn threads in the rear toe link assembly that could cause the vehicle to drift at highway speed and if it separates, markedly increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects SRX SUVs from model years 2010 through 2015 and 9-4X SUVs from 2011 and 2012 model years.

Ignition Switches
According to the US News and World Report, the GM fund has agreed to pay at least $1 million for each death claim, along with $300,000 payments to surviving spouses and children for pain and suffering. In addition, it will calculate the economic value of the life lost. The fund has no cap on overall payments.
